Praa Sands (pronounced 'prey') is one of the most famous and nicest beaches in Cornwall. With good sand, good surf and good conveniences including a choice of shops and cafes all with good, close car parking. It is therefore very popular with holiday makers and surfers alike. Ample parking space is available and a bus service to Penzance and Helston.
The beach is backed by low dunes at first, giving way to cliffs, the beach is long and sandy. It is patrolled by a lifeguard in the summer months, making it family friendly.
The surf here can be good for beginners and intermediates alike, at all times of year, and even in the winter one can usually see the keen surfers in the water.
There are great Coast Path walks in both directions from Praa. To the west you can walk to Prussia Cove, well worth a visit or you can stop and explore Kenneggy Sands which is a little less far. To the east there is the fabulous cliff walk over to Rinsey.
Easily reachable from Praa are Penzance and Helston, with St. Ives, the Lizard Peninsula and Lands End.
